ABOUT THE UCAN CENTRE
All UCAN staff and providers are fully qualified in their vocational areas. They have vast experience and a passion for working with young people to encourage, empower and educate them into making more informed choices.
Young people can access the center at short notice if required, and we offer many different packages to suit the needs of your Academy/school and your young people. Support in Maths, English, and Science can be offered to those schools that use online packages such as BKSB and Ed Lounge or GCSE work set by the home school. Progress reports are provided for young people on regular basis.
The center has a fully operational café, where young people may purchase a healthy home-cooked meal and healthy snacks and drinks. We believe in giving every young person the very best chance to succeed by not permitting foods and drinks that may have negative effects on their behaviour.
DEVELOPED IN 2014 THE UCAN CENTRE IS A COLLABORATION OF A NUMBER OF LIKE-MINDED EMPLOYERS WHO HAVE THE DRIVE AND PASSION TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE SUCCEED
The UCAN Centre offer schools and academies across the Wakefield district and beyond, a unique vocational offsite provision for young people 11-16 who may be or are in danger of disengaging at their home Academy/school. We offer engaging enrichment programs to help encourage young people and support them in developing their abilities to make the right choice and remain in learning delivered through our PSD and Resilience approach.
Located within the grounds of Featherstone Rovers, the Centre offers a unique learning experience with a wrapped around personal and social development programme, and a wide range of vocational subjects. Further to our vocational courses and equally important, is our ethos, which is to constantly create an environment where young people are encouraged to accept equality and to understand the difference in others.
New for 2022 – For every new young person referred to UCAN for 2 days or more, UCAN will sponsor a Centre Point room
